Having done some SCCA licensing and permenant number stuff this week, Facebook is suggesting racecar related stuff for me now. One suggestion is a Spec Miata discussion group. While I don’t play with them, my mechanical mentor owned a Miata shop and Spec Miata rental operation so I know the cars and class reasonably well.
Out of curiosity, I clicked on the group just to see what they discuss. The first post I see is this shit:
This is blatantly illegal in the class and easily checked for in impound. Plenty of folks were quick to mention this, too, but I got a kick out the guys expressing interest in it presumably using their real names in a forum of competitors. I guess they know who doesn’t know the rules and/or who’s car is going to get taken apart at the next race.
I’ll stick to oppo for my internet automotive fix.

Maybe at a Majors or Runoffs level but I haven’t seen a tech inspection protest or check like that in the 5 years I’ve been volunteering at local levels. I’m doing my first Majors event in two weekends so maybe I’ll get to be more hands-on with tech inspections.

Maybe not at a regional event, but that would be well within what I’ve seen checked for in impound at a national majors event (especially the spec miata guys, since it has proven to be a more cheaty class on the whole).

I’ve heard about the Laguna Seca impound incident for Spec Miata. I know the top two teams in our region do push the envelope a lot with their cars. We busted one last year for a blatant missing intake-restriction plate.
